" Wekiwa Springs State Park "

Located at the headwaters of the Wekiva River, the beautiful vistas within this park offer a glimpse of what Central Florida looked like when Timucuan Indians fished and hunted these lands. Just one hour from most central Florida attractions, Wekiwa Springs offers visitors the opportunity to relax in a natural setting, enjoy a picnic, or take a swim in the cool spring. Canoeists and kayakers can paddle along the Wekiva River and Rock Springs Run. Thirteen miles of trails provide opportunities for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding.

“Canoeing with the Gators!!”
Yes, that's exactly what my canoeing experience at Wekiwa Springs State Park was like. It was one-of-a-kind. I highly recommend it. If you're 'lucky', the Wekiva River can be crawling with alligators. We only saw three when we went. The river is flanked by woodlands so it makes you feel like you're canoeing on a river in a jungle. A canoe costs only $18 and the ensuing adventure is well worth it. Entrance to the park is quite affordable, only $2 for pedestrians and $4 for single occupant vehicles. The park is clean and canopied by large oak trees. Not a lot of tables though so best to bring your own picnic mat. There are BBQ grills too, perfect for an afternoon BBQ party. The spring is crystal clear, excellent for swimming. There are nature trails, also great for horseback riding. The park is popular during weekends so it's best to come early. They close when they reach maximum capacity.
